Fishing spots: choose a route for practice, Pals or loot

v1.0.5 data · v1.0.4 difficulty changes · checked October 8, 2026

The short answer

The best fishing spot depends on your goal: practice near an accessible low-level shadow, target the region and shadow pool for a particular Pal, or prepare an endgame setup for World Tree resources. A map marker alone does not make a difficult catch manageable.

Use the PalDB Fishing Spot map to choose a reachable marker, then read the actual spot's equipment recommendation. Treat the map as a route aid rather than a promise that a node is active when you arrive.

For a species target, open the region's catch list in the current fishing data before travelling. A fishing reward pool and the Pal catch pool are separate lists; seeing a schematic in the rewards does not say which Pal you will catch.

Make a repeatable short trip

  1. Pick one target and one reachable area on the map. Prepare rod and bait for a limited trial.
  2. At the marker, identify an actual fish shadow and the displayed recommendation. If it is a floating barrel, switch to the salvage route.
  3. Complete one attempt. Note whether the issue was finding an active node, getting a bite or maintaining gauge overlap.
  4. Count the rewards you actually collected. Repeat the route only if the available spots and results suit your objective.
  5. If the region is too difficult, use an easier area to practice or improve the party before spending the rest of the stack.

World Tree advice needs its patch context

The July–August Steam World Tree Fishing thread contains sharply different experiences, including difficult gauge control and no bites. Several replies recommend condensed Gloopie and Whalaska. Those are player setups, not a universal success percentage.

v1.0.4 later adjusted Sunreach and World Tree difficulty and added a fish-behavior setting. Compare your current settings with the older report; do not change equipment based only on a pre-patch claim that the area is impossible. For a draining gauge, choose the support effect that addresses that failure.

v1.0.3 added World Tree Holy Water to World Tree fishing rewards. That makes it a relevant resource route, but this page does not publish a complete loot table or a guaranteed number of bottles per cast.

When staying at base better fits the task

If your objective is passive catches and items while managing the base, use a Fishing Pond. Choose its production pool and collect both the Pal and item results. A base pond does not turn a map's World Tree node into an automatic route, and regional item pools need their own check.
