Progression resources
Farm Technology Points: manuals, bounties and routes before the World Tree
For ordinary Technology Points, use Advanced, Innovative or Futuristic Technical Manuals. They give 1, 2 or 3 points respectively when consumed. You do not need to reach the World Tree first: bounty exchanges, accessible dungeon rewards and regional Fishing Ponds provide alternatives.
First check which currency your technology needs. An Ancient Technical Manual adds to the separate Ancient Technology Point balance; it does not fill an ordinary-point shortage.

Choose a route you can already run
| Your situation | Next action | Tradeoff |
|---|---|---|
| You have Bounty Tokens | Exchange five for one Advanced Technical Manual. | A fixed shop price; check available stock before spending. |
| You can clear dungeons comfortably | Finish the boss route and collect the end rewards. | Book types vary; a particular manual is not guaranteed. |
| You have a working Fishing Pond | Run a regional pool that lists technical manuals. | Uses bait and Handiwork; random rewards. |
| You already breed surplus Lyleen or Shadowbeak | Consider their Innovative Manual drop route. | Chance-based and sacrifices the Pal. |
This is a progression-based choice, not a measured ranking of points per hour. Start with your existing infrastructure rather than building a new production chain to cover a small shortage.
Exchange Bounty Tokens for the right book
- Check the ordinary Technology Point cost of the unlock you want. Write down the remaining shortage.
- Bring Successful Bounty Tokens to a Bounty Officer. FruitOvTheGloom’s reply in the August discussion uses the officer at Small Settlement.
- Select Advanced Technical Manual. PalDB’s current bounty shop lists one book for five tokens.
- Read the quantity, stock and total token cost before confirming. Four books would cost 20 tokens and provide four ordinary points when used.
- Use the books from inventory, then reopen Technology and check that the ordinary balance increased.
The same tokens can buy other items, including a Pal Reverser. Reserve the budget for the operation you need. Buying this manual is separate from a bounty’s first-completion reward.
Collect the rewards, then consume the manuals
RogueHockey35’s August 29 question describes a level-72 player who has reached the Sky Islands but not the World Tree. SuperSaiyanBen and Acceptable-Ability96 recommend completing accessible dungeons rather than spending every visit exploring slowly. The latter explicitly describes ordinary and Ancient books as random alternatives.
- Pick a dungeon your current party can finish reliably. Clear the required route and boss before opening its end rewards.
- Collect the books and read their full names. Advanced, Innovative and Futuristic are ordinary-point books.
- Use the collected manuals. Carrying them or placing them in a chest does not spend them.
- Return to the Technology menu and confirm the correct balance before unlocking your intended recipe.
A commenter’s “at least one every time” is not our drop guarantee. If the result is an Ancient book, save it for that separate currency.
Get books from fishing without confusing it with salvage
Calientecarll reports using medium shadows in three base ponds, while Har_monia describes assigning a Handiwork Pal and collecting between expeditions. Current manual records also list regional fishing and pond reward pools. These are repeatable opportunities, not guaranteed books on every catch.
Use the pond’s catch and collection steps, select a pool with the book you need, and collect both the caught Pal and items. For manual fishing, match the rod, bait and fish shadow. A Powerful Fishing Magnet is for advanced floating-barrel salvage; carrying it does not turn ordinary fish into technical manuals.
Use surplus Pals only if the drop route fits your base
PalDB lists Innovative Technical Manuals among Shadowbeak, Lyleen and Lyleen Noct drops. The August replies describe breeding and disassembly as another ordinary-point route. The book is a possible drop, so one missing result does not prove the method is broken.
Protect your breeding parents, combat Pals and upgraded keepers before choosing surplus offspring. Disassembly removes the selected Pal; it is not a reversible exchange of Souls. For a few points, compare the token or dungeon route before committing Pals and breeding time.
If the Technology menu still says you lack points
- Book still in inventory: consume it, then check the balance.
- Wrong currency increased: you used an Ancient book; choose an ordinary manual for an ordinary unlock.
- Another type of manual: read its effect. Training and work-suitability books serve different tasks.
- Points available but recipe locked: check the recipe’s level or other displayed requirement.
Leveling and first-time fast-travel unlocks also grant ordinary points. They can cover a remaining gap while progressing, but revisiting an already unlocked travel statue does not create another first-unlock reward.
