Water salvage

Salvage tools: normal barrels, gold bands and magnets

v1.0.5 context · October 4–5 player replies rechecked October 8

The short answer

Normal metal bands: a fishing rod and swimming mount. Gold bands: bring a Powerful Fishing Magnet as well. That is the tool split in the October Steam reply to a player asking whether every water salvage needs a magnet.

Keep magnets in your inventory for the advanced spots. A failed timing attempt does not consume one; a successful advanced salvage does. Leave inventory room before pulling up rewards.

Look at the bands before choosing equipment

In the October 4 salvage question, MrIncognito’s reply #1 separates normal metal-banded barrels from gold-banded barrels. The author thanks them but does not supply a successful gameplay test. Game8’s salvage guide independently distinguishes early spots that need no magnet from later spots that do.

Which salvage route should you use?
Floating barrelBringMagnet rule
Normal metal bandsRod, swimming mount, inventory roomNo Powerful Fishing Magnet required
Gold bandsRod, swimming mount, Powerful Fishing Magnet, inventory roomKeep the magnet in inventory; consumed on success

This distinction is about debris salvage. A fishing spot with fish, its bait choice and its difficulty are a different interaction. Use the barrel’s appearance and equipment prompt rather than assuming every object in the sea shares one rule.

Get ready before going out to sea

  • A fishing rod: Game8 reports that any fishing rod works for salvage, unlike fish-size restrictions in ordinary fishing.
  • Footing: take a rideable swimming Pal. You cannot start this fishing interaction while swimming in deep water yourself.
  • The advanced item: for gold-banded debris, place a Powerful Fishing Magnet in your inventory. It acts as the special salvage consumable.
  • Inventory room: free slots and carrying capacity before the pull. Overflow can leave rewards in the water instead of adding them to your inventory.

For the magnet’s current recipe and production facilities, use its item reference alongside your unlocked technology. Ordinary salvage is not a reason to buy a supposed “basic magnet” first.

One older magnet guide contradicts itself about whether the lowest salvage rank consumes a basic magnet. This route uses the explicit normal-versus-gold split and does not require an undocumented basic item for normal debris.

Pull up the debris

  1. Find a floating salvage barrel and inspect its bands.
  2. Approach on your swimming mount with the rod equipped. For gold bands, check that the Powerful Fishing Magnet is in your inventory.
  3. Use the hold control displayed at the salvage spot. Follow your platform’s current prompt rather than a keyboard key from an old video.
  4. When the circular timing display appears, stop the pointer within its green segment. If you miss, retry the timing; the magnet is not spent on that miss.
  5. After a successful pull, check the collected items and the advanced magnet count. Inspect the water if your inventory was full.
  6. Move to another salvage spot. A single successful pull does not establish the same loot at the next spot.

Check the failing step

The interaction does not start
Check your footing and rod first. If the barrel has gold bands, also check the exact magnet item in your inventory. Do not diagnose an ordinary barrel as missing a magnet.
You miss the green timing segment
Retry that minigame. The cited guide says a failed attempt does not consume the advanced magnet; do not craft another just because the pointer missed.
You succeed but cannot find the items
Check inventory space and nearby floating rewards. Freeing space before the next pull prevents this specific overflow risk; it does not recover items already lost.
A normal spot did not use your magnet
That matches the ordinary-spot rule. Keeping magnets in your inventory does not make normal debris consume them.
A known spot is absent
Explore another visible spot. This guide does not establish a universal respawn time or a fixed farm loop for your world.

If the prompt disagrees with the route, record the barrel, item name, platform and version. The October post does not specify its build, so report a mismatch without assuming that every platform has an identical UI.

Use salvage as a source, not a guaranteed farm

Rewards depend on the spot and a random selection. Pal Souls can appear among them, but neither one successful catch nor a displayed loot table guarantees a Giant Soul on your next pull. Check your next enhancement’s Soul tier before treating the trip as enough to finish an upgrade.

Jellroy is an optional party benefit, not a requirement to start. Its Partner Skill can increase salvage items; skill levels are not five condensation stars. This page does not promise a particular hourly yield, all salvage coordinates or combined drop chances from separate reward groups.
