Item Retrieval Machine bulk-stores while typing: what to check
First confirm the search field has input focus before typing words containing R. In the October 22 report, players suspect the nearby-storage shortcut is being triggered while typing outside the field. The original author has not confirmed that explanation or a successful fix.
No verified “disable bulk store” switch is established by that thread. Protect important inventory, test the input carefully and keep an unresolved problem separate from a proven workaround.

Retrieval is not the only possible inventory action
The current machine record describes access to chests within the base. It excludes Feed Boxes, Cold Food Boxes and child chests from retrieval. It is not evidence that every container is accessible, or that it feeds workers automatically.
One reply initially says the machine cannot store items. TheBlackWindHowls corrects that it can add stackable items to existing stacks; ihtayt13 then reports checking that behavior in-game and accepting the correction. This is why an apparent deposit should not be dismissed as impossible.
Separate a shortcut from a text-field problem
- Put valuable items somewhere safe and note the inventory you intend to keep. Use a small, replaceable stack for the check.
- Open the machine and deliberately select its search field. Confirm that text or the insertion cursor appears there before entering a whole search term.
- Type a short term and observe the search text and inventory separately. In the reported case, the author names “relic” and “soralite.”
- If an inventory action occurs, stop typing. Check your current bulk-store binding; the reply describes R on keyboard, not a universal controller button.
- Compare with typing while the field is visibly selected. A difference supports a focus/input explanation; it does not prove that lag or a mod is the cause.
- If a correctly focused search still deposits items, keep that result as a reproducible bug report rather than repeatedly sending valuable stock into storage.
What the thread does and does not establish
ARknifemods’s follow-up says the problem still occurs while typing and wonders about lag. There is no confirmed resolution. The replies propose missed text focus or mod behavior, but neither was established for the original setup.
Record platform, client/server versions, key bindings, mods, the exact search text and whether the field displayed the text. A short before/after inventory recording is more useful than reporting only “the machine stores everything.” Use Pocketpair’s support form for a current reproducible issue.
If your real task is feeding several bases, follow the shared-reserve and local Feed Box workflow. Access to a storage stack and a worker’s ability to eat are different checks.
